Floyd Melvin Nyman's Obituary
Floyd Nyman, age 84, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024, in Portland, Oregon. He was born on December 26,1939 to Roy and Ethel Nyman in Lacon, Illinois. He graduated from East Peoria High School in 1958 and attended the University of Illinois Chicago. He married Dianne Nyman on March 4,1962, and they lived in Creve Coeur, Illinois for most of their married life until they moved to Portland, Oregon in 2017.
Floyd is survived by his wife Dianne; his three children: Victor (Denise) Nyman, Kristin (Jeffrey) Christiansen, and Richard Nyman (Andrew Augustin); brother Dan (Margie) Nyman, and four grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Beverly Curtis Swearingen, John Nyman, and Shirley Rebholz Davis.
He had a successful career in the grocery business, opening his first store in Peoria, Illinois and taking over his parent’s store, Nyman’s Market in Creve Coeur, Illinois in 1967. He and Dianne worked very hard to expand and maintain the family business for many years until they retired in 1992. Nyman’s Market was known throughout central Illinois for their bakery, deli and famous fried chicken.
Floyd loved spending time with his family, and he also loved hunting and fishing. He will be remembered for his hard work, ingenuity with problem solving, and contributions to the Creve Coeur community.
