Frank J. Sopp's Obituary
Frank J. Sopp was born on October 10, 1912 in Virginia, Minnesota to Mike & Katherine Peskar Sopp.
He died at a St. Helens nursing home on June 18, 2012 at the age of 99.
Frank was educated in Virginia, Minnesota, he was the oldest of 7 children. He started working after school to help the family. He married Fern M. Carlson and in 1943 they moved to St. Helens for him to work at Boise Cascade. He moved into a foreman position after working there for 30 years and retired in 1976.
He was a past member of Calvary Lutheran Church, he enjoyed flying, golfing, fishing, hunting, gunsmithing and building boats. He was very active and a life member of The Elks, and was the official photographer, Masons, Royal Arch, Columbia Council, Knights of Templer, Shriner President 70-71, he received his pilot's license in the'50's and was a member of the Oregon Pilot's Association.
Survivors include: Daughter: Marie Sopp of Gresham; Grandson Robert Sopp; 2 sisters: Marjorie Hautala & Francis Olson of Eveleth, MN., and numerous nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Fern in 1986 of over 50 years and his son James in 1965, whom he shared his hobby of flying private planes.
