Fredrick Alexander Roediger's Obituary
Mr. Roediger passed away March 2nd at Portland with his wife and daughters by his side. He was 92.
Fred was born to Edmund G. and MarieSteinhauer Roediger, Sr. in Thomas, Oregon on April 9, 1918. His family later moved to Treehorn just outside of Vernonia where his family ran a filling station for many years. During that time he received his childhood education at Pleasant Hill Grade School.
In 1942 he married Rosalie Driscoll in Vancouver, Washington. After a brief stint at the Vernonia Golf Course and a short time working for the railroad he spent the next 20 years working as a resawer for the Oregon American Lumber Company until its closure in 1957. He also served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII.
In 1958 he moved his family to St. Helens and spent the next 20 years as a Chief Deputy and Captain for the Columbia County Sheriff's Department until his retirement in 1978.
During his lifetime he enjoyed gunsmithing, reloading, coin collecting and gardening and claming. Some of his most pleasant times were spent camping, fishing, hunting and smoking trout at Magone Lake in Eastern Oregon.
Fred is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rosalie, children; Fred and Laurel Fowler, Paul and Patrice Roediger, Kathy and Jim Miller and Sherry Doty. He was a proud grandparent of 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, brother, Edmond G. and Edith Roediger, Jr., Sister in law, Sally Roediger and Brother in law, Art Ozias and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded by brothers, John and Bud Roediger and sister Ruth Ozias.
