Galeva Arlene Bunce Lampa

Galeva Arlene Bunce Lampa went home to the Lord on May 20, 2015. Galeva was born August 7, 1918 to parents William and Myrtle Bunce in Iona, South Dakota. Galeva is the oldest of 9 children.
The Bunce family moved to the Pine Ridge Sioux Indian Reservation when she was 8 years old. In 1937 the family moved to Emmett, Idaho where she graduated in 1938 and started a career with the telephone company. During WWII she was transferred to Pittsburg, California as a long distance operator at Camp Stoneman APO Army Base. After the war she transferred to Portland, Oregon where she met Louie Lampa of St. Helens. They were married in 1946 where they have lived their entire life. Galeva continued to work at the phone company until 1963 when it went dial.
Galeva volunteered throughout her life at the senior center, drove for meals on wheels and the church library. Her most enjoyable volunteer work was making stocking caps for the Portland Rescue Mission where she is known as the “Hat Lady”, for over 35 years. Galeva also enjoyed flowers, gardening, puzzles, reading books, and keeping in touch with all her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Louie (Fritz) Lampa in 1997, her brothers Charles A Bunce, Blaine Bunce, Bernal Bunce and Wilbur Bunce and a sister Velda Bunce. She is survived by her four daughters; Sandra Lampa Loop of Portland, Beverly Lampa Kumpula of St. Helens, Dianne Lampa Herman of Portland and Michelle Lampa (David) Landolt of Vancouver, Washington. Her sister Mavis Bunce Underwood of Pasco, Washington, brothers Wayne Bunce of Tacoma, Washington and Dean (Nancy) Bunce of San Antonio, Texas. Her grandson Patrick and great grandson Trey Kumpula. Numerous step grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 1:00pm at Grace Baptist Church, 58690 Ross Rd, Warren, Oregon. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. Helens Senior Center or to the Portland Rescue Mission.
