Gene E. Vardanega's Obituary
Gene E. Vardanega was born on October 24, 1928 in Portland, Oregon to Peter & Jenny VanDalen Schuring, emigrants from Holland. She joined 3 sisters and one brother.
She died at her home in Warren, Oregon on January 30, 2010 at the age of 81.
The family moved to Shiloh Basin, where they lived in a log house with no running water and no electricity.
She attended Shiloh Basin Grade School, then Rainier High School. In 1943 the family moved to Warren, she finished high school in Scappoose. She worked after school at the WESCO Shoe Factory and after graduating from high school continued to work there with her sister, Helen.
In 1947 she married her high school sweetheart, John Vardanega. They made thier home in Warren and had four children.
They were active in many social gatherings, loved gardening, and enjoyed working outdoors helping her husband. They were married for 63 years.
Survivors include: Husband: John Vardanega of Warren, Children: Barbara Gene Vardanega of Portland; John P. Vardanega of Warren; Dr. Lorelie Vardanega of Portland; Josie Gilmore of Herndon, Virginia; Sisters: Jo Kalberg of St. Helens; Cora Moreland of Lincoln City; blessed with 5 wonderful grandchildren. Preceded in death by siblings: Helen, Jenny and Pete.
Funeral Service: Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Columbia Funeral Home
Committal service & interment: Bethany Memorial Cemetery-Warren, Oregon.
