George B. Hafeman, Sr.'s Obituary
George B. Hafeman, Sr. was born on February 13, 1916 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to John & Catherine Freimuth Hafeman.
He died at Meadow Park Care Center in St. Helens on December 2, 2005 at the age of 89.
He was in the Army from March 2, 1939 until retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel on May 31, 1959. He was highly decorated in the military with a silver star, 4 bronze stars, 2 purple hearts and various other service awards.
He moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon in 1959 from Santa Anna, CA. and he has resided in the local area for over 43 years.
When he retired from the military in 1959 he sold life insurance, owned grocery stores in two different locations, and for over 40 years sold real estate.
He married Phyllis in Kelso, WA. on September 28, 1941, she preceded him in death on October 23, 2001.
He was a member of St. Helens Elks and Moose Lodges. Member of St. Frederic Catholic Church, President of the Columbia County Board of Realtors, and president of Scappoose Little League. His favorite interests were traveling and talking with people about the military. He was talented and successful everything he did.
Survivors include: Children: George B. Hafeman, Jr., Mike Hafeman and Rita Semling; Siblings: Juletta Bowen, Sarah Armstrong, Norbert & Sonny Hafeman; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews.
Elks service: Tuesday, 12/6/05 at 2:00 PM at St. Helens Elks Lodge
Recitation of the Rosary: Tues. 12/6/05 at 7:00 PM at Columbia Funeral Home
Funeral Mass: Wednesday, 12/7/05 at 10:00 AM at St. Frederic Catholic Church-St. Helens
Committal service, honor guard & vault interment: Willamette National Cemetery-Portland, Oregon at 2:00 PM Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Meadow Park Care Center patient assistance fund, the VFW or to the Windermere foundation.
