Georgie Phyllis Lamar Holsheimer December 3, 1926 ~ October 12, 2016
Georgie Phyllis Lamar Holsheimer died October 12, 2016. She was born in Scappoose December 3, 1926. She was the daughter of John L. and Dollie Adams Lamar. Her mother also born in Scappoose, the daughter of homesteaders Rosa and Fred R. Adams and great-grandparents, Samual and Julia Adams.
She lived her entire life in Scappoose, the first 11 years in a city-center home constructed by her grandparents, and then in South Scappoose the remainder of her life.
She graduated from Scappoose Grade and High School (1944) and attended Oregon State University and Portland State University. She was a lifetime member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
She married Phil Holsheimer Jr. January 25, 1947; they had two sons, Lamar and Jan. Her husband, Phil, preceded her in death in 2002. Her son Lamar, died in 1977.
When her children were in school, she was very active in PTA, Cub Scouts, and other activities involving children. She also helped establish and actively supported the Scappoose Woman’s Club. In later years, she was a member of the St. Helens Zenith Club and St. Helens Business and Woman’s Professional organization.
She and her husband provided the funding, combined with energy from members of the Columbia Humane Society, to construct the Holsheimer/Lamar Memorial Animal Shelter located in St. Helens. They both remained active supporters of the facility.
She worked out of the home during part of her married life, three years with Peterson Rose Gardens in Scappoose, part-time at the Scappoose Spotlight, did photography for the St. Helens Sentinel Mist paper and 20 years for the Columbia County Mental Health Center.
She and her husband were active in several Recreation Vehicle Clubs. After their retirement, they spent their winters in the Palm Springs area.
She is survived by her son Jan and his wife Linda and Lisa and Rich Osborne, Tim Weight and her pet canine.
At her request, no funeral services will be held.
Internment was at Scappoose Fairview Cemetery.
