Gerald Lee Sachs' Obituary
Gerald "Jerry" Lee Sachs was born on January 17, 1939 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to Marvin J. & Caroline V. Larson Sachs.
He died at OHSU hospital in Portland, OR on December 14, 2011 at the age of 72.
Jerry was educated in West Linn, OR and in Detroit Lakes, MN graduating in 1957 from Detroit Lakes High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Music & Business Education at Moorhead State University, graduating in 1962.
He married Carol McAnnany on May 28, 1966 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. They lived in Minnesota for his teaching career where he started as a band and choir teacher. He then moved on to teaching accounting and business at the Minnesota Tech Colleges for 19 years, retiring in 1995. When he retired they moved to Salem, OR where they purchased Espresso Road. In 1998 they purchased Beacon Shores Resort in Cross Lake, MN. When they sold the resort in 2001, they purchased their home on Lake Lida near Pelican Rapids, MN. They spent the winters in Oregon and summers in Minnesota.
When they were residing in Oregon they attended First Lutheran Church in St. Helens. While in Minnesota, they attended Calvary Evangelical Free Church in Pelican Rapids.
Jerry was a church choir director, youth counselor, and treasurer. He was also a band director for the city band in Granite Falls, MN, umpired youth baseball and played bass guitar in the Four Wheel Drive, Stone River, and Ridge Runner Bands. He enjoyed music, spending time with family, church, and his savior was Jesus Christ. He loved the MN lakes where he taught many kids to fish, waterski, & hunt.
Survivors include: Wife: Carol Sachs of Pelican Rapids, MN; 6 Children and Spouses: Scott & Julie Sachs of Pelican Rapids, MN; Todd & Rhonda Sachs of Kirkland, WA; Brad & Mindy Sachs of Pelican Rapids, MN; Sean & Erin Sachs of Salem, OR; Heather & David Simoneaux of Durham NC; Joy & Brian MacDaniels of Wilsonville, OR; 10 Grandchildren: Shauntae & Sarah, Tad, Faith & Dane, Sidney & Billy, Summersby & Sterling, & Phineas; Sisters: Judy & Don Cox of Milwaukie, OR; Carol & Kevin Shipley of Detroit Lakes, MN; Father-in-Law: William McAnnany of St. Helens, OR; Sisters-in-Law: Pat & Harold Storm of Bozeman, MT; Judy & Mike Johnson of St. Helens, OR; Brother-in-Law: Tim McAnnany of St Helens, OR, many nieces & nephews and DLHS Class of 1957.
Celebration of Life: Monday, December 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church-St. Helens, OR.
