Geraldine 'Elaine' Hughson's Obituary
On October 13, 2024, Geraldine “Elaine” Hughson passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital. She was 79.
Elaine was born at St. Luke’s General Hospital in Bellingham, WA, on April 16, 1945 to Vernon and Averil “Mae” Porter. The family later moved to Columbia County where she met her husband, Gordon and they married on August 3, 1962.
Once she sent her sons off to school, Elaine got her GED and worked as a school bus driver and cook, both for Bill’s Quick Mart and the St. Helens School District. For many years, she cooked fabulous meals for family and friends. She especially loved the Christmas season and hosted an annual open house so guests could enjoy her expansive Christmas village, SnowBabies and Father Christmas collections, as well as seasonal décor in nearly every room of her home.
In retirement, Elaine and Gordon traveled the United States in their RV, often with Gordon’s brother or other close friends. They spent several winters “snowbirding” with friends, either in southern California or Yuma, AZ.
She is survived by her sons, Jeff Hughson of Scappoose and James Hughson of St. Helens; stepfather, Frank Weber of Scappoose; three grandsons and four great-grandchildren. Her son, Kenny and her husband, Gordon Hughson preceded her in death, as did both of her parents and her sister, Sharon. Her younger sister, Lora Pavlin, resides in Phoenix, AZ.
A Memorial Service will be held at Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 10 AM.
Her remains will be inurned privately alongside her husband’s at Columbia Memorial Gardens in Scappoose, Oregon.
