Gerry was born on March 17, 1945 in Scobey, Montana. She was number 13 of Alfred and Ethel Goulet’s 21 children. After graduating from Scobey High School in 1962, She moved to Glasgow, Montana where she met the love of her life, Richard Mares, whom she lovingly referred to as Rog.
Gerry and her husband spent many years living in the Seattle area. In 1979, the family moved to Rich’s hometown, Scappoose, where they finished raising their family. Some of Gerry’s hobbies turned into business opportunities when friends and family hired her to paint and hang wallpaper, or do house and office cleaning. Gerry loved going on road trips and stopping at casinos along the way. She was always up for browsing at a thrift store or garage sale.
Gerry loved the Christmas season more than any other and decorated every room of the house, often putting up multiple Christmas trees. Her favorite holiday traditions were hosting a big family Christmas Eve gathering and getting the grandkids matching Christmas jammies.
Gerry was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Scappoose for many years. She was always happy to participate in the various parish events, including strawberry socials, turkey and spaghetti dinners, and Christmas pageants.
