Gib Gilbert Urie's Obituary
Gib "Gilbert" W. Urie was born on March 18, 1926 in St. Helens, Oregon to Clyde & Ethel Wonderly Urie.
He died at his home in Scappoose, Oregon on October 18, 2009 at the age of 83.
Gib graduated from St. Helens High School in 1944, attended a total of 2 years of college at Pacific University and Oregon State.
He married Jody in 1948, she preceded him in death in 1976. He married Vivian Swopes in 1977, she also preceded his in death in 2008.
Gib's first grocery store was in the Frakes Building, called Gibs Shopping Center. In 1970 he partnered with Pete to open P&G Thiftway, he retired in 1996.
He lived in the area all of his life being a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, Booster Club, Kiwanis, Scappoose swim pool member at large and a Scappoose volunteer fireman, responding to the fire siren.
Gib was at the store six days a week on the floor. He loved his customers, greeting and helping them was number one in his life. This held true to all levels of his life. He loved Thursdays because it was payday and he was able to see and talk to all of the employees and find out what was going on in thier lives.
Survivors include: Children: Vickie Kangas of Scappoose; Dan Casswell of Oregon City; Carol Kangas; Carolyn Collie both of Scappoose; Gayle James of LaCenter, WA.; Beverly George of Vancouver, WA.; Gerald Caswell; Albert Casswell both of Scappoose; Siblings: Alma Weed of Bend; Dorothy Jacobson of Cathlamet, WA.; Ed Urie of Camas, WA.; 28 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral Service: Friday, October 23, 2009 at 1:00 PM both at Columbia Funeral Home.
Committal service & interment: Columbia Memorial Gardens Cemetery-Scappoose, OR.
