Glenn W. Matz's Obituary
Glenn Matz passed away on September 17, 2022, just weeks shy of his 90th birthday. Waiting for him at the pearly gates was his deceased wife Lois, with a list of chores and a hug.
Glenn was born in Chicago on October 11, 1932, the same year Amelia Earhart flew solo across the Atlantic, the Cubs had a winning season, and Al Capone was convicted of tax evasion. Glenn always paid his taxes. After a childhood of school, stickball, and a near fatal bout with tuberculosis, Glenn met Lois at Valparaiso University in Indiana.
After graduation they were married in Seattle on October 12, 1957. Glenn never forgot an anniversary, mostly because it was the day after his birthday. Genius. It was a whirlwind romance that lasted 57 years and bore them four somewhat intelligent and average-looking children. Glenn spent most of his working career as an itinerant banker. He worked for Peoples Bank in Seattle and Port Angeles, then moved the family to Salem, Oregon to work for Western Security Bank and later KeyBank.
Not much of a hobbyist, he enjoyed mowing the lawn, washing the car, and doing the dishes after large family meals. All of which was much appreciated by Lois.
Glenn is survived by his children, Linda Easterling and her husband Mike, Dale and his wife Anne, Craig, and Scott. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Keesha and Cody. Thank you to all that made his life long and meaningful. Memorial contributions may be made to: Lutheran World Relief PO Box 17061 Baltimore, MD 21297-1061.
A Memorial service will be held in honor of Glenn on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the First Lutheran Church in St. Helens. The service will be additionally held on zoom. To join please follow the link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83366636499?pwd=dkdIMm92WnFCRE8xZ2dqeGR4eUZDQT09
