Grace S. Heide's Obituary
Grace V. Huess was born in Philadelphia, PA. on April 15, 1915. The identity of her parents are unknown. Shortly after birth, she was left in the care of the Mary Hannond Home in Hoboken, New Jersey, from which she was adopted by H. William and Julia Stehn. She attended public schools in Weehawken, New Jersy. After graduation from Weehawken High School in 1933, she went back to work for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York City.
She married Herbert Heide on October 3, 1937, and their marriage was blessed with one son, Gary. She served as a Nurse's Aide during World War II. When her son was old enough, she worked at several jobs outside the home, including as a telephone operator for New Jersy Bell Telephone Company and as a data clerk for Concordia Publishing House in St. Louis, Missouri. She was an active member of the Lutheran Church most of her life, though for the last several years she was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in St. Helens. Her handwork kept her busy thoughout her life.
She passed from her life in this world at her home in Scappoose on November 14, 2009. Her beloved Herb preceded her in death in 1977. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Gary and Joan Heide of St. Helens; her grand-daughter Kitty Heide of St. Helens, her grand-daughter and her husband, Kriss and Warren Fincher of St. Helens, her grand-daughter Kalli Clevenger-Benson of Denver, CO. and her great-grandson, Nicholas Fincher of St. Helens.
Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Christ Episcopal Church in St. Helens at 2:00 PM on Saturday November 21, 2009.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church in St. Helens or First Lutheran Church in St. Helens.
