Harold David Hand's Obituary
Harold David Hand passed into the arms of the Lord on March 6, 2007, at the age of 76, while resting peacefully at home after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 13th at 11:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 51737 Columbia River Hwy. in Scappoose, followed by interment at Willamette National Cemetery.
Harold was born March 24th, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Scappoose High School, and the University of Oregon. He served 30 years in the United States Coast Guard, five years active duty and twenty-five years as a reserve officer, retiring with the rank of Captain. Along with his distinguished military service, Harold was a successful businessman in finance, banking, and real estate. He worked with the Portland Development Commission as Director of Real Estate; as Vice President at both U.S. BankCorp and Lincoln Savings and Loan, and Oregon Mutual. He was also a real estate instructor, and in his latter years continued to work in real estate with Windemere.
In 1952, he married Liga Krumins; now deceased. Their surviving children include: Ina Rihani, David Hand, and Linda Hand Sodero. Four grandchildren: Cedar Rihani, Paul Rihani, Michael Rihani, and Yasmin Sodero. And, great-granddaughter Rachel Grace Rihani. In 1987, he married Patricia Stewart, his partner in Life and Business who now survives him, together with his four step children; Deborah Anderson, Kerry Anderson, Ray Anderson and K.C. Stewart. Five Grandchildren; Kortney, Ambyr, Tanner, Brynn and Samantha.
Interests that Harold shared with his family and community included the Boy Scouts, serving in Stephens Ministry, and travel.
Harold will always be remembered by family and friends for a quick joke, an entertaining dinner party or a gourmet barbeque. He was a wonderful mentor who counseled with sage advice and never hesitated to lend a hand.
