Hazel G. Oester's Obituary
Hazel G. Oester was born on November 11, 1923 in Goltry, Oklahoma to Howard & Maude Conville Bandeen.
She died at a Portland hospital on December 1, 2009 at the age of 86.
Hazel moved to Oregon as a baby, while growing up she lived in various places in Oregon and graduated from Scappose High School in 1942. A year later she married Raleigh Oester. He was in the Army Air Force in Pecos, Texas so she lived in there until he was sent overseas. She then returned to Oregon. During the war years she worked as a secretary at one of the shipyards in Portland. After the war when Raleigh returned they made their home in St. Helens where their three son were born. She worked as a secretary & notary public at a local bank until she retired.
Her enjoyments include rock hounding and they traveled all over digging rocks and semi-precious gems. She enjoyed spending summers in Montana digging for sapphires. At home beautiful jewelry and other items were made from their "finds". She turned soapstone into animals and along with their jewelry took many trophies and ribbons at rock shows. She also enjoyed crocheting and crafts.
After retirement they spent their winters in Arizona and traveling. They spent alot of time in Canada and Alaska. She was a very talented person and after her husband died in 1989 she learned to water color and shared her pictures with family and friends.
Survivors include: 3 sons & spouses: David & Shari of Kingman, AZ.; Steven & Mary of Bend, OR.; Richard & Christy of Middleton, ID.; Brother: Don Bandeen of Cloverdale, CA.; Sister: Joyce Bowman of Corvallis, OR.; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews.
