Obituary of Hazel Wood
Hazel Wood of Scappoose passed away at her home surrounded by her family on April 25th, she was 80 years old. Hazel Joan Wood was born November 27, 1931 in Edgar, Nebraska to Clarence and Eva Seymour Johnston, one of four children. She married her first husband, Roland Paul Long in 1948 in Yuma, Arizona and had two daughters, later they were divorced. She married John Wood and they arrived in the Scappoose area on October 31st of 1963 and still was able to take the daughters trick or treating. They purchased a working farm which was funny as Hazel had never been on a farm before. Hazel was a successful business woman who owned several rental properties. She enjoyed volunteer work and worked for several years at the Scappoose Sr. Center. She is known for her sweet personality and generosity thought out the community. She loved to travel, dancing and shopping trips. She was well known for her glassware and for getting a good deal, always haggling. She will be greatly missed.
Hazel is survived by her children; Christie Blount of Dallas, Oregon and Paula Brissett of Clatskanie, Oregon 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her siblings; Truman, Lillian and Grant McClellan.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date this summer.
