Hazel Jean Kennedy
May 28, 1928 – March 4, 2015
Hazel Jean (McCleary) Kennedy was born in Ipswich, South Dakota on May 28, 1928. She passed away in Portland, Oregon on March 4, 2015.
She moved with her parents and siblings from Ipswich to Columbia City, Oregon in 1937, and later to Warren, Oregon. Hazel graduated from St. Helens High School in 1946 and was employed by Bell Telephone Company as an Operator and also as an employee at Bemis Bag Company. She married William Stuart Kennedy on February 13, 1949 and lived at Oakridge, Oregon and later at Tillamook, Oregon.
Hazel and Bill operated trucking businesses in Oakridge, Tillamook, and Scappoose. They also constructed and operated a mobile home park in Tillamook and were active as executives and lobbyists for the Oregon Dump Truck Association. Both were equal partners in their business ventures as well as during long hours as officers in the Dump Truck Association.
They also were dependable friends and acquaintances to all who knew them.
Hazel was active in the Girl Scouts, 4-H, and other volunteer organizations.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Jeff Specht of Scappoose; brother, Lyle McCleary of Sheridan, Oregon and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband William S. Kennedy, her son William C. Kennedy, her brother Melvin McCleary, and her sister Beverly Nissen.
Services will be held at Columbia Funeral Home, 681 Columbia Blvd., St. Helens, Oregon on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM.
The family request memorial in lieu of flowers be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association at 1650 NW Naito Pkwy #190, Portland, OR 97209 or to Housecall Provider’s Hospice at 5100 SW Macadam Avenue Suite #200, Portland, OR 97239.
