Henry J. Elisalda, Jr. ~ "Chief"
Henry was born on January 7, 1930 in Altedena, California to Henry and Della Moss Elisalda. He lost the fight on August 12, 2008 and died in the Portland VA Hospital at the age of 78.
At age 13 he joined the Merchant Marines and fought in WWII.
In 1981 he married Maxine Dickinson in Klamath Falls and they moved to Scappoose to seek out new business opportunities.
Henry was known to his friends as "Chief". He was a member of the Kootenai Tribe from the Flathead Reservation. He was proud of his American Indian heritage. He also had a great sense of humor.
Chief was an entrepreneur. He was self-employed in a wide variety of different business ventures. He was a barber, did log diving expeditions for Weyerhaeuser, owned Sun Stop Window Tinting, Klamath Cement Cutting and Paving Company, did Hazmat work, bird rescue, made novel doll cases, and cabinet making.
Henry is survived by his wife, Maxine of St. Helens, and sons; Russell Elisalda and wife Kim of Yelm, Washington and Henry J. Elisalda III of Everett, Washington. Three grandchildren; Russell Elisalda, Jr., Anna Elisalda, and Jesse Elisalda and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Jim and a sister Dorothy.
A Memorial Service and Indian Ceremony will be held at the Alano Club in St. Helens on Friday, August 15, 2008 at 2:00 pm.
