Herbert J. Sandstrom's Obituary
Herbert J. Sandstrom was born on April 7, 1917 in Napavine, Washington to John & Esther Nelson Sandstrom.
He died in a Portland hospital on January 10, 2008 at the age of 90.
Herbert moved to Clatskanie, Oregon at a young age and attended school there, graduated from High School in 1936.
He married Helen Loyd in Chehalis, WA. on February 1, 1939. They made thier home in Columbia City living there for 63 years. They moved to Warren 3 years ago.
Herbert was an electrician for Boise Cascade. He worked there for 35 years, retiring in 1977.
While living in Columbia City he served on the city council as well as the Mayor and on the school board.
He was baptized in the Lutheran denomination. He was active in the Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge and the P.T. Boaters. Early on his interests included woodworking, painting, traveling, hunting, fishing, golfing, dancing and pinochole.
Survivors include: Wife: Helen Sandstrom; Sons: Donald MarilynSandstrom; Ret. Col. Kenneth Sandstrom all of Warren, OR.; Niece & Spouse: Liz & Von Smith; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; preceded in death by parents; 2 brothers, 1 sister.
Viewing & visitation: 9-5 Tuesday at Columbia Funeral Home-St. Helens.
Celebration of Life: Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the St. Helens Masonic Lodge.
Private family committal service & vault interment: Masonic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or to the Senior Center.
