Jack Charles Smith's Obituary
Jack Charles Smith was born on April 21, 1916 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Walter & Emily Somner Smith.
He died at his home in Warren on March 8, 2009 at the age of 92.
He moved to Oregon attended high school and graduated from Benson Hi in 1934, Pacific University in Forest Grove in 1948 and received his doctorate degree in 1949.
He met Mary Stewart in Victoria and later he married her on August 1, 1940.
Jack bought a Portland dead optomitrist practice, reopened it. He worked partime in Tigard & Vernonia, then started in Sweet Home from scratch and in 1955 purchased a friends practice.
He was a member of Grace Baptist Church where he was very active for many years and did many of the volunteer jobs there. Attended the Cannon Beach bible conference.
He enjoyed woodworking and building adirondak furniture, he could fix anything. He enjoyed traveling, 1 trip to the Phillipines 3 to Mexico. He collected glasses from the Lions Club, filled the lenses and gave away thousands to third world countries.
Survivors include: Wife-Mary Smith of Warren, OR.; Children: Jil Wardle of Rainier, OR.; Nancy hart of Warren; Pati Fogal of LaQuinta, CA.; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service: Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 2:30 PM at Grace Baptist Church.
Private family service & interment: Willamette National Cemetery-Portland, Oregon.
