Jack Gordon "GORDIE" Olson
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held, 2PM, Tuesday, April 17th at Yankton Community Fellowship.
Jack passed away surrounded by his family on April 13, 2012 in Portland, Oregon. He was 90 years of age.
Jack was born June 24, 1921 in St. Helens, Oregon to Kitty C. Usher and Oscar M. Olson the youngest of five children. He attended McBride Grade school and graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School.
A short time later he joined the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Theater in Guadalcanal from 1942 through 1945. While he was in service he married his sweetheart Dorothy Evelyn Gillis on February 4, 1944 in Portland and honeymooned in Sun Valley, Idaho.
She preceded him in death in 2005. From this union they had five children.
Jack worked for Local 701, International Union of Operating Engineers for many years before working for K.F. Jacobsen Paving in Portland from 1961 until he retired in 1981.
Jack is survived by his Companion Helen Sharp of St. Helens, children; Dale Olsen of West Linn, Don Olson of Long Beach, WA, Doug Olson of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Debbie Edwards of Oregon City, Oregon and
12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his siblings; Delmar, Merton, Perry Olson, Dorothy Haun and Pearl Olson.
