James "Wayne" Burgess' Obituary
James W. Burgess, “Wayne” was 90 years old when he passed away on October 2, 2018 in Longview, Washington.
Wayne was born to Katie and Marcus Burgess on June 7, 1928 in Clatskanie, Oregon. He spent most of his time growing up on Bunker Hill in St. Helens, Oregon, but Wayne has lived in a few places including Vernonia, Empire and Salem, eventually coming back to his home in St. Helens.
He had a passion for logging (he was a faller) and was employed with companies such as Keyser Gypsum and Longview Fiber. He also worked for Owens Corning, and Weyerhaeuser, as well as driving sawdust trucks.
Wayne had a love for animals and enjoyed going camping and traveling through 43 of the states with his wife Nona. They were members of the Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his wife; Nona Burgess, son; Mark (Karla) Burgess, daughter; Sandi (Paul) Wilson, sisters; Addie and Bonnie (Mike), and multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents; Marcus and Katie Burgess, sons; John and Robert (Bob) Burgess, brothers; Robert and Ed Burgess, and sisters; Ruby and Theo.
There will be a service October 10, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Yankton Hillcrest Cemetery, with a reception to follow at Best Western in the Conference Room from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
