James Robert Fery's Obituary
Jim was the son of George and Lucille Fery of Stayton, Oregon and grew up on the family farm. He attended school there and went on to Oregon State University and later received a post graduate degree from Stout University. Education was important to Jim, so he became a high school industrial arts instructor.
He taught in St. Helens and Sherwood and after several years, he decided to become a building contractor which he did until retirement.
“Tackle Box Jim” was an avid fisherman and spent countless hours out on the river until his health prevented him from going. Camping, boating, gold panning, and mushroom hunting were all things he loved, and he kept the family busy going on many adventures.
A longtime member of the community he served as president of the St. Helens Senior Center for many years and was an active member of St. Frederic Church and served as Treasurer of the Knights of Columbus.
He survived by his wife Pat; son Lance; daughter Jane; grandson Cole; brothers Richard Fery of Charleston, South Carolina and Ted Fery of Bell Isle, Florida; sisters Judy Spandoni of Shoreline, Washington and Peggy Gray of Salem; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patricia Gallagher; and nephews Ryan Gallagher and Andy Carey.
