Obituary of James "LaMar" Walker
A celebration of LaMar Walker's life will be held at 2pm, Saturday, January 7th at Columbia Funeral Home, St. Helens, Oregon. LaMar passed away at home surrounded by the love and support of his family early on Christmas morning. He was 78 years of age.
James "LaMar" Walker was born June 18, 1933 in Santaquin, Utah, the 2nd of four children born to Walter Joseph and Lillian Stevenson Walker. Raised in Santaquin, he graduated from Payson High School in 1951. After graduation, he married Ranae Forsee in 1951 and from that union had three children, and then divorced. LaMar was athletic and at 13 years of age, raced horses as a jockey. He played football and baseball in high school and then went on to play professional baseball for the farm team of the Philadelphia Phillies as a catcher before suffering a career ending injury.
LaMar then went to the University of California, Riverside and received his Degree in Business. For many years he worked as a non-food buyer and merchandiser for several grocery chains in the western United States. He met Donna in Salem, Oregon and they were married 30 days later on July July 14, 1979. They were happily married for 32 years. In 1990, they began working in management together. They moved to Scappoose, Oregon in 2001 and became the park hosts at the Scappoose RV Park in 2006. He enjoyed fishing and camping and following the Mariners Baseball Team.
LaMar is survived by his wife; Donna Walker of Scappoose, and his many wonderful children and their spouses; Randy Cheryl of Mesa, AZ, Gary Debbie of Coco, FL, Cindy of Melbourne, FL, in John Hilary of Vancouver, Nancy Bruce of Salem, Merry of Vancouver, Jeff of Scappoose, and Melanie Jefferson of Sherwood, OR, 27 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, brother Jack Walker of Payson, UT and sister Idonna Crook of Santaquin, UT, brother in law; Richard Delores& sisters in law; Shirley and Sharon. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Lillian and by his brother Arnold.
