Jason Everett Lofquist's Obituary
Jason was born in Los Angeles, California to Hal and Laurie Lofquist and lived in the L.A. area until 1971 when they moved to the St. Helens area.
Jason attended St. Helens schools until his graduation in 1983. He cherished his lifelong friendship with Cory, his daughters Megan, Jamie, and Hannah and the whole Gustafson family as his chosen family over the years. He played baseball and football. After high school, Jason went with Cory and a few of his other friends to UTI in Arizona to learn auto mechanics.
Jason was a founding member and lead singer of a punk rock band called The Bondage Boys along with David Honeycutt and Steve Warner. The band played special events at the Pytheon Hall, private parties and a multi-band fundraiser at Scappoose High School amongst other gigs. He was delighted to learn that a promotional flyer from the band is displayed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
On summer days in his childhood, you might find Jason picking strawberries at one of the local farms, bucking hay, or working at the county fairgrounds. During high school, Jason pumped gas at Lloyd Brough’s Texaco station in St. Helens. He started his grocery career at Thriftway in St. Helens and his career took him to Alaska where he helped open and manage new grocery stores all over Alaska including Dutch Harbor, Ketchikan, and Barrow. Jason also served as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic. He worked with his friend on the Jack and Jason show, a weekly rock and roll radio program in Dutch Harbor. He also assisted with a public access television show fundraiser where he was featured singing, “Rubber Ducky” in a bathtub. He also made his acting debut in the locally-sourced horror classic, Crab Terror. For the past ten years, Jason worked at Pacific Stainless Metal Fabrication as a Sawyer.
He met and married his first wife, Holly in 1986 and he had his first son Brandon shortly thereafter.
When he returned from Alaska in the early 90’s, he met Wendy and became a stepdad to her children, Sheena and Colt. Wendy and Jason went on to have Jesse and Zane and to marry in 2003. They were together for 14 years and after a long battle with cancer, Wendy passed away in 2005.
Though they first dated more than 20 years before during high school, Jill and Jason got back together in late 2006. They raised their combined family together with Jesse, Allie, Zane, and Cameron in the house on and off through their school years. Later on they happily welcomed 13 grandchildren into their lives Sheena’s children Aliyah, Malik, and Tyru, Brandon’s kids Diego, Hailey, Serena, Delilah, Madeline, Colt’s children Emily and Molly, and Allie’s children Warren, Junie, and Otto.
Jason has had many hobbies over the years. He coached Little League Baseball for several years, he liked to fish and boat with his friends and family, rode quads and dirt bikes, and he loved to go camping. In his spare time, Jason played guitar and drums for fun, with the kids singing lead vocals. He also learned to carve rocks and cultivate mushrooms.
Jason loved to decorate for Halloween and Christmas and had very creative and memorable displays, some of which were featured on the news.
But of all of his hobbies, he loved going to concerts the most. His favorite bands were Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, The Beach Boys, and Elvis. He also loved the local bands The Wieners and Just Kiddin’.
Jason is survived by his loving companion Jill, his children Brandon, Sheena, Colt, Jesse, Zane, Allie, Kevin, and Cameron, his mother Laurie Lofquist, his sister Jodi Gartman, and nephew Gunnar(Shelby.) He was preceded in death by his father, Hal Lofquist, and his wife Wendy
