Johan John Rasmussen
April 23, 1937 ~ February 7, 2008
Johan John Rasmussen of Scappoose passed away February 7, 2008. He was 70. John was born April 23, 1937 in Portland, Oregon.
John attended Scappoose elementary and high schools. He was in the U.S. Coast Guard until April 1958. He married Wanda on June 14, 1958. He was a father of two daughters, Tone Rene Phillips and Teresa Marie Thompson. He was a grandfather of Monica Owens, Josh Reisinger, and Rachel Reisinger. John spent his entire life living in Scappoose with the exception of time spent in the U.S. Coast Guard.
The majority of John's working career was as a member of the Boilermakers Union. In semi-retirement he traveled as a machine technician-servicing beverage dispensing machines. In his spare time he loved to fish, hunt, camp, and most of all spend time with his friends and family.
John took great pride in being involved wit the Elks. He participated in the Meadow Wood Speech Camp projects for several years. He particularly enjoyed the bus trips to work at the camp, especially when the kids were present.
John helped with the pit barbecues at the hayride events and eventually took it upon himself to keep up the grounds year round at the hayride site.
John also loved to barbecue chickens on the barbecue at the Elks Lodge. He was responsible for changing the barbecue pit from charcoal to gas.
For a coulp of years John was head of the committee to distribute Christmas baskets for the needy. He continued to work at this project through this past Christmas.
John was a very loyal member of the Elks not only in his local lodge, but anywhere he traveled. He liked to visit any lodge he could find. In 1987 John was Elk of the year.
John always enjoyed driving around trying to find covered bridges. While on these trips he admired all nature had to offer. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed special hunting trips in Wyoming and Oregon; even a special moose trip to Canada. He liked all kinds of fishing; salmon, sturgeon, trout, and catfish. He enjoyed fishing lakes, streams, rivers, and even off the rocks at the beach. He loved clam digging while at the beach also.
John was always a back yard mechanic. He serviced his personal vehicles and any of his friends that asked for help. He was always the one to call if you needed help to get pulled out of the mud or snow.
John loved his home in Scappoose, and thoroughly enjoyed working in his yard and cultivating his flowerbeds. You could also find him tinkering in his garage, listening to music and willing to visit with all his neighbors as they walked by.
