John William Bucar January 21, 1938 ~ March 12, 2018
John William Bucar passed away peacefully on March 12, 2018 at Providence Hospital in Portland, Oregon. He was 80 years old. He was born January 21, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to Edward W. and Rose C. Bucar (Drehobl). He was the younger brother of Edward F. Bucar.
The family moved to Rockford, Illinois where John attended St. Thomas High School and loved playing football. They then moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he attended De La Salle Military Academy and graduated May 25, 1956. After high school he worked construction in Fairbanks, Alaska and upon returning to Kansas attended the University of Kansas. After college John returned to Chicago where he began his career with United Airlines. He completed his 38-year career with United Airlines in Portland, Oregon.
John loved fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, and was an avid sports fan. He loved the Cubs, the Bears, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Kansas Jayhawks. He was ecstatic when his Cubs won the World Series. He loved cooking, and family gatherings for pork roast and bread dumpling dinners, which were always a hit with all who attended. He enjoyed organizing many United Airline summer picnics, and Alaska fishing trips with his United co-workers.
He was an active member of St. Frederic Catholic Church, serving as Eucharistic Minister, Knights of Columbus, cooking at church picnics, and strongly he supported the Apostolic Life Community of Priests program, in Tanzania.
He was preceded in death by his father Edward, mother Rose, brother Edward, and sister-in-law Mary. He is survived by his wife Donna, daughters Kathy Katz(Dennis), Ann Greenwalt (Larry), Carolyn Dierking(Alan), Teresa Cravinho (Michael), step son Patrick (Christina), sister-in-law Joan Powell, brother-in-law Leonard Hegele, 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and cousins in Chicago and California.
