John Dudley Germer's Obituary
John Germer passed away at home on the Columbia River in Columbia City, May 24, 2012, surrounded by the love of family; he was 90 years of age.
John Dudley Germer was born October 8, 1921 in Challis, Idaho to John Henry and Virginia Bordoli, the fifth of eight children. Raised in several locations due to his father moving around the Northwest to find work, he graduated from Challis, Idaho high school in 1941, joined the United States Navy January 28th, 1942 and served proudly during WWII. He was honorable discharged as an Aviation Boatswains Mate 1st Class, November 23, 1945.
John moved to Columbia City that same year to join his family where he also met and married Betty Josephine Dowler in 1950. Betty preceded him in death December 14, 2003 after 53 years of a beloved union.
John worked at several places over the years retiring from the Crown Zellerback sawmill in Columbia City where he worked his way up to being the Mill Carpenter.
John loved the Columbia River and built his house next door to his parent's in-laws home where he built his own boat ramp. Fishing was one of his favorite hobbies and you could find him out on the river many a day with his friends.
John is survived by his children; Tom Germer of King City, Oregon and Janet Gage of Athol, Idaho, five grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a younger sister; Virginia Leuzinger of Challis, Idaho.
A public gathering will be held at his home, 2000 The Strand St, Columbia City, 2PM, Sunday, June 3rd.
