Johnny Eugene Unger's Obituary
Johnny Eugene Unger of Scappoose died at his home on September 18, 2010. He was 79.
Johnny Eugene Unger was born in Newport, Nebraska in 1931. His parents Cornelius and Violet moved the family to Scappoose in 1938. He graduated from Scappoose High School and then served in the Air Force where he met his first wife of 25yrs. Irene.
John worked as a salesman for the 3M Company before owning an automotive repair shop in NW Portland. He was best known for owning the J&I Market/J&B Market on the Vernonia Hwy. John also owned the Florence Park Motel before working at the Scappoose School District which is where is he retired.
He married Billie Burns in 1975. John enjoyed bowling, pool, camping, playing poker, and traveling.
John is survived by his wife Billie. His children; Dan Unger of Scappoose, Patsy Steinfield of Portland, Stan Burns of Scappoose, Becky Kraft of Forest Grove, and Steve Unger of Beaverton. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Brenda Bowles of Beaverton, Christopher Unger of Beaverton, Brenton Unger of Beaverton, and Alaura Unger of Beaverton along with his siblings; Lilly Goodwin, Helen Sandau, Helen Hansen, Midge Ashley Raymond Unger, Donnie Unger, and Carolyn Barger. John also had 2 great-grandchildren that survive him; Courtney and Cassey Bowles of Heppner.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday September 26, 2010 at 1:00 pm at the Scappoose Senior Center.
