Joseph L. Flynn, Sr.
Joseph L. Flynn, Sr. (Joe) died peacefully in Portland, Oregon on May 14, 2016 at the age of 78.
Joe was born on November 18, 1937 in Brainerd, Minnesota to parents James and Bessie Flynn. He graduated from Scappoose High School in 1955. Joe served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959 and worked as a longshoreman in the Portland area.
Joe married Laura Goodwin on September 6, 1957, and they were happily married for 58 years. They raised three children in St. Helens, Oregon.
Joe is survived by his wife, Laura Flynn, and his children and grandchildren. His children are Janet Flynn Paulson (John, Sr.), Jeanette Flynn Muehleck (Henry), and Joseph Flynn, Jr. His grandchildren include: Juliet Paulson, John Paulson, Jr. (Kirsten); Anne Muehleck and Amy Muehleck; Tim Flynn and Laura Flynn Erb (Jason).
He is also survived by his sisters Hazel Flynn Runyan (Flavel) and Shirley Flynn Harker (James).
Joe was a great animal lover and enjoyed spending every day with his Boston Terrier, Precious.
An avid gardener, Joe was well-known for his beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved to go clam-digging. Joe was happiest when he was on a road trip with Laura, driving carefree to see the country.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Heart Association in Joe’s name.
