Joseph Hubert Gross' Obituary
It is with great saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Hubert Gross November7, 2024 at the age of 80. He will be truly missed by many.
Joe was born in Lake Village, Indiana, to Charles and Hannah Gross. Joe was the youngest of 5 brothers and two sisters. When he was 3 years old, he and his family moved to Oregon, where Joe attended school. Shortly after graduating from Cascade High School Joe entered the US Army. After his honorable discharge he moved back to his home in Marion, Oregon.
On June 29, 1968, Joe married Marvelene Harksen, at St. Bonifice Church in Sublimity, Oregon. They made their home in Salem and were so happy to be able to adopt two sibling children. Shortly after this Joe’s place of employment, at Boise Cascade in Salem closed and he and his family transferred then to Boise Cascade in St. Helens where he worked until his retirement in 2004.
Some of Joe’s favorite things to do were fishing, hunting, tending his vegetable garden, and going to a casino. He also enjoyed the time that he and his family stayed at their beach condo together in Lincoln City. Joe was also a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, and he enjoyed being a scout leader for many years.
Joe is survived by his wife of 56years, Marvelene; son Richard (Debbie) and daughter Melissa Gendhar (Mitch). Joe also loved his grandchildren, Ryan, Josh, Michael, Dennis, and Cassandra. And a brother John (Salem) as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Frederic Catholic Church in St. Helens, OR on November 23, 2024, at 11AM with graveside service at Columbia Memorial Gardens in Scappoose to follow. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
