Judy Rae Long died March 15, 2017, at the age of 77. She was born November 5, 1939 in Lewiston, Idaho, to Jack Leon and Sammy Louise Ackley. Judy was the second eldest daughter in their family of 4 children.
Judy graduated in 1957 from Ephrata High School in Ephrata, Washington, and attended college in Ellensburg, Washington ,which is now known as Central Washington University. Judy married Gary Griffith and they moved to Condon, Oregon in the late 1950’s. Together they raised three children, Mark, Lisa, and Lori. Judy worked as the Gilliam County Assessor in Condon for many years.
On June 21, 1980 Judy married Roy Long and she acquired three stepsons, Dan, David, and Doug. In the mid 1980’s Judy and Roy moved to the Portland area and then established their home in Columbia City, Oregon. Judy worked for the Oregon State Department of Labor and Industries and retired December 1, 2001.
Following her retirement, Judy and Roy spent a few years traveling Hawaii and Mexico, although Cozumel, Mexico was one of their favorite destinations. She enjoyed fishing in their boat along the Columbia River, and she was an avid reader. She was a huge Portland Trailblazers fan. Even when Judy’s health was declining, she never lost her sense of humor, her family will always remember her infectious laugh.
Judy is survived by her husband of 36 years, Roy Long and their three children, Mark Griffith (Sue), Lisa Erland (Mike), and Lori Semmel (Keith). Surviving stepsons are Dan Long, David Long (Marcy), and Doug Long (Deann). Judy is also survived by her sister Jill Birchler (George), her brother Dennis Ackley (Mary), and brother Kirk Ackley (Patty). She leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jack and Sammy Ackley.
Services will be held Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 1:00pm at the Columbia Funeral Home 681 Columbia Blvd. St. Helens, Oregon 97051.
