Ed was a gentle giant who lived in the McCormick building and was given the title with t-shirt to match of "Security" by the late Bob Israel, former owner of the building. Ed was already a familiar figure in Olde Town St. Helens when I moved my bookstore to a downtown location across from the McCormick, next to the St. Helens Cafe. He was always friendly and willing to do anything he could to help the merchants down there, most of whom also counted him as a friend. After his morning walk each day you could usually find him sitting at the corner in front of Jilly's, watching over the neighborhood. He took his title seriously. Ed could be counted on to keep an eye on things. He was happy to water your plants for you, if needed, to help direct visitors, and to assist with whatever chores needed doing. Those of us who knew him appreciated his ready smile and wave, and his watchful presence. We will miss him.##imported-begin##Susan Easley Conn##imported-end##
