My best memories of dad:
Hunting Bee's:
One time dad and I went bow hunting in Springfield, OR. We went out and found a nice ridge over looking a small valley. We split up and went out to see what we could find. About 10 minutes later I came to a clearing I looked over and saw Dad about 100 yards off to my right. He saw me then waved, and then we both started settling to wait out any game. Well dad decided to sit down on a near by stump. As soon as he did he jumped up started dancing around, then started running back to the road. It was the fastest I had ever seen him move. When we got to the road and met up I had found out that he had sit on a bee's nest, I don't think I laughed so hard.
Working on the truck:
Dad and I spent a lot of time working on mom's S10 not that she remembers, and every time we would have left over nuts and bolts. Well one time I asked dad, "Why do we always have so many left over nuts and bolts?" he told me " Don't worry, if there was not left over nuts and bolts then we would of done it wrong." Sure enough we never had any problems. He showed me how to change the oil filter, spark plugs, the clutch, the transmission and how to take out the drive shaft to get to the transmission. Every time we would have left over parts, but one time when we changed out the clutch we did not have any left over nuts and bolts, so that worried us. So when mom went to start the truck up there was a loud bang and a small explosion. It turned out we put the clutch in backwards, and when mom started the truck it blew. So from that day forward, I always made sure to check things again if there were no left over nuts and bolts.
Cat in my room,
One night I decided to sneak a girl into my room, well we were not so quite and Larry came in. I had just got the covers over her when he opened the door. He asked me "Who is in there with you?" I told him" The cat" he then replied by saying, "Tell the cat she needs to go home and make sure not the wake your mom on the way out."
Thinking back:
Looking back now I realized that Larry was a wonderful Dad to me, and I did not realize that in till recently. Now that dad has moved on I have realized what the man meant to me. he was a father, a friend and one of the best men I ever knew. I will never forget you dad and look forward to see you in heaven. I know you will be up there leaning on the back of a perfectly good lazy boy, drinking Pepsi and watching a good western. So dad keep a Pepsi cold for me, and a good set I will see you when I get there.##imported-begin##Paul Opie##imported-end##
