Larry Schaumburg's Obituary
A Celebration of Life will be held, 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 29th at Columbia Funeral Home.
Larry James Schaumburg passed away at his home surrounded by the love of his four children and loving caregivers on May 26th. He was 76 years of age.
He was born October 19, 1935 in Hoopeston, Illinois to Carl Jacob and Beulah Carl Schaumburg, the fourth of five children. The family moved to Vernonia in 1950 where he graduated from Vernonia High School in 1953. He was a salesman for welding supply companies for many years.
Larry married Barbara Lee Stechmesser, on December 27, 1975 in Vancouver, Washington. They have lived in Portland for the last 35 years. He was a wonderful craftsman and loved hunting in Toe Head Canyon, in Central Oregon and fishing at Paulina Lake in LaPine, Oregon.
He and Barbara, were square dance callers for many years with the Eager Beavers, members and Goodwill Ambassadors for the Oregon Federation of Square Dance and Round Dance Clubs; Barbara being a cuer and Larry being a caller. They made many friends and traveled all over enjoying this recreation. He loved his vacation homes in Etna, California and Harlingen, Texas.
Larry is survived by his children and spouses; Robbin Boos of Tualatin Steve, Ron Schaumburg of Redmond Denita, Ryan Schaumburg of Wilsonville Jennifer, Renée Hafeman of Scappoose, Mike, daughter-in-law, Sherrie Craig, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and special nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 2011 and step-son, John Dalen Craig, siblings; Gwen Marino, Phyllis Wyatt, Donald Schaumburg and a younger unknown sibling. He is also survived by three wonderful caregivers, Karen Golson, Mary Helen Dominguez and Joyce Sosa
