Laura Margaret Stauss' Obituary
Laura Margaret (Ticknor) Stauss,died November 7, 2014, in St. Helens, Oregon, she was 84. Laura was born on January 22, 1930, in Lead, South Dakota, to Ernest and Marie Ticknor.
Laura graduated from Lead High School and in April, 1948 she showed her adventurous spirit by moving to Portland with another 18-year-old friend. Before marriage and children, Laura worked in a cafe and as a phone operator at Pacific Bell. In July of 1950, she met Gus Stauss at a western dance. They were married on August 12, 1950.
Laura enjoyed dancing, parties, and games of all kinds, including bingo, casino gambling, and cards. She was a skilled bowler, anchoring a winning team along with her daughter Gail and son-in-law Jay in 1992, and participating in various leagues throughout her life. She also collected bells and figurines of angels to decorate her home, and wrote poetry for her own enjoyment.
Laura loved spending time with her grandchildren and friends. She was a devoted mother, a beloved grandmother, and a loyal friend, with a fun-loving spirit that lives on in her children and grandchildren. She will be much missed.
Laura's husband Gus predeceased her in 2008 after 57 years of marriage. She is survived by her four children, Luan Stauss (Emily), Kenneth Stauss, Karla Reinholdt (Derek), Gail Urie (Jay), and grandchildren Kirk, Kylie, and Kenna Reinholdt, Michael Urie, and Ryan Stauss.
Services will be held at Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens, Oregon at 3:00 PM on Saturday, November 15, 2014.
