LAWRENCE RONALD SMITH
March 11, 1923 ~ October 10, 2015
Larry was born March 11, 1923 in Baker, Oregon to Frank and Florence Smith. He passed away October 10, 2015 in St. Helens, Oregon.
When Larry was about 12, the family moved to Pumpkin Ridge, in Washington County. After attending high school for 2 years, and went to work in the woods. He made enough money logging to buy a home in Hillsboro before being inducted into the Army.
During WWII Larry served in North Africa and Italy. After the war he logged, owned a dry cleaners and in 1951 became an iron worker. He retired from iron working in 1984 and spent his retirement golfing, fishing, vacationing, and spending time with friends and family.
Larry was a loving father, loyal friend, hard worker, wonderful dancer, and had a great sense of humor.
He is survived by a daughter, Catherine Magnuson of Scappoose and son, Robert Smith of Cedro Wooley, Washington and 2 step-sons Jim Chisum and Ron Chisum both of St. Helens. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and became a great, great grandfather 3 months ago.
At his request, there will be no funeral. Inturnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
