Leland Eugene Harness' Obituary
Leland Eugene "Gene" Harness passed away in Longview, Washington on April 24, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. He was 78.
Gene was born February 27, 1933 in Old Lexington, Arkansas to Raymond and Goldie Lee Williams Harness. He was one of two children.
Gene joined the United States Navy and served overseas at Tokyo, Japan. In 1963 he married Nancy Eileen Cruzan in Sparks, Nevada on December 5th. Afterwards he worked as an interstate bus driver for over 20 years for Pacific Trailways from 1972 until 1992. In 1992 Gene wet to work for TriMet for the next 7 years. He and Nancy moved to St. Helens in 1994 from Portland.
Gene had many enjoyments in life including but not limited to; camping, hunting, fishing, boating, RVing, Parasailing in Mexico, White Water rafting in Washington, and snorkeling in Hawaii. He loved gardening, cooking Southern food and his dogs. He was great at sharing jokes and a laugh or two. He loved his family and friends.
Gene is survived by his wife of 47 years; Nancy Harness of St. Helens, sister; Verva Park of Gresham, Oregon, and his sister in laws; Marie Charobonneau of Portland and Dorothy Cruzan of Sacramento, California, sons; Stephen Harness of Mt. Dora, FL and Glen Harness of Portland.
