Lester Egbert Brown's Obituary
Lester "Les" Brown passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 6th in Portland, Oregon. He was 84 years old.
Les was the youngest of four children born in St. Helens, April 5, 1927 to Lester Bert and Woneta Broyles Brown. He was a 1945 graduate of St. Helens High School. He faithfully served in the Army Air Corp and later in the Air Force during World War II.
Les married Marvel Grace Blankenship on June 15, 1962 in St. Helens at the Christian Church. He has been a member of St. Frederic Catholic Church since 1995. He served as a greeter almost every Sunday, did light maintenance and provided communion to shut-ins.
Les worked for Cooper Auto Parts for over 43 years, retiring in 1998. He was also active in the community, a member of the St. Helens Elk Lodge, Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus, St. Helens Senior Center, and was past Commodore twice for the St. Helens Yacht Club. Les bowled for over 40 years, and was inducted in the local Bowler's Hall of Fame in 1998. He received the Sportsmanship Award as well.
Les is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marvel, children; Neta Minten of Salem, Leslie Heimuller of St. Helens, Connie Oswalt of Portland, JeAnne Waite of St. Helens, Donna Brown of Hillsboro, Jeri Waite of Scappoose, Keri Merriman of Clatskanie and Curtis Waite of Mesa, AZ. He has 22 grandchildren, 28 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Granddaughter. Les is preceded in death by his son Lester "Arthur" Brown, siblings; Morris Barger, Wilbert Barger and Doris Fall; Grandson: Geoffrey Oswalt.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Helens Senior Center or to a charity of ones choice.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Lester Egbert Brown, Jr. 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 15th at St Frederic Catholic Church. The Recitation of the Rosary will be at 9:15 AM.
