Obituary: August 24, 2013
Lois Marcella Charmane Madsen Smith was born to parents Mary and Nels Madsen, on November 6, 1923 in their home outside of Lemont, Alberta Canada. When Lois was five years old, they moved from their 600 acre wheat ranch to Portland, Oregon. At age seven they moved to a filbert and dairy farm in Powell Valley, Oregon. When she was eleven, they moved to a berry farm at Cottrell, Oregon, near Sandy. She graduated from Sandy High School.
At age nineteen she married James Chisum and they had two sons, James L. and Ronald W. Chisum. They lived in Happy Valley, Oregon.
Lois later married Lawrence Smith. They later had a son Robert L. Smith. They moved to a farm at Trenholm, near St. Helens, Oregon. After 13 years living on the farm they moved to St. Helens. Lois later moved to Deer Island, Oregon, where she lived out her life.
Lois enjoyed crafting, gardening, collecting antiques and collectables. She spent seventeen years participating in the St. Helens Sweet Adelines Chorus. She lived in Alaska for two years and loved every minute in the beautiful state. She later did secretary work and retired at the young age of eighty years old.
Lois enjoyed going to Reno and Las Vegas with friends and family. She loved visiting her son Robert and his family, who live in Bellingham Washington. She also loved spending time with her children, and their families and visiting with her friends here.
Lois has one sister (Olga), two brothers (Ernie and Arther), all now deceased. She is survived by sons; James Lynn, Ronald Wayne, Robert Lawrence, former husband Lawrence and Step-Daughter Catherine Magnuson. She has Eight Grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Lois loved all of her family and friends very much.
Lois had a very wonderful life, full of fun and so much love. She will be missed by all.
