I finally find my favorite and beloved teacher: today - on July 13, 2025. I was deeply saddened to discover her passing; sobbed actually. I tried to find her so many many times over the years since I graduated from high school in 1981- to no avail. My heart was heavy to know she was still alive until just last year.
If only...
Oddly enough, I'm not good at remembering names (or even birthdays) of people, but I still clearly knew her middle initial "M" after all these years! That's how impactful she was to me in my teen years.
She taught me a deeper love and appreciation for the English language, literature, grammar and writing. Her influence in my life was profound. Over the years, my skills, learned from her, have served me very well - both professionally and personally. She would have been proud that I followed all the rules she taught me..."omit unnecessary words" was one I've used often.
Mrs. Koehler, this post for you will probably not be so brief, lol.
I'm so very grateful to have had the blessing of knowing her at Milby High School. I wrote the dedication (pictured below) in our Petro Post newspaper.
She was so charming; such a lady with poise and grace and kindness and tenderhearted. Her petite frame held a strong woman of character and passion.
There are very few people that hold space in your heart and life that never leave - Mrs. Koehler is one of those.
