Margaret L. Melton
Margaret L. Melton of Scappoose passed away July 25, 2010, at a hospice care center in Longview, Wash. She was 86.
Margaret L. Payne was born Jan. 7, 1924, in Mitchell to Woods and Freda Payne.
Educated at West Branch School in Mitchell, she attended classes in a one-room schoolhouse.
During World War II she worked in the shipyards.
Additionally she was employed as a waitress in Mitchell, Prineville, and Portland, before joining Burns Bros. Inc., from where she retired in 1985.
In 1973 she married her beloved husband, Virgil, and moved to Scappoose.
She loved to sight see, and watch her "pet" quail, squirrels, and various birds.
She is survived by her husband Virgil of Scappoose; sons, Fred Carlson of Mitchell, and Richard Kathy Melton of Scappoose; daughter, Nancy Tony Mecklen of Milwaukie; granddaughters, Kelina, and Erin Adam; grandsons, Travis Karena, and Kyle; and great-grandchildren; Zoe, Anders, and Chloe. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harold "Bud" Payne, and Tom Payne; and sisters, Hilda Simpson and Linda Fox.
