Margaret "Peggy" Anne Sperr's Obituary
Margaret (Peggy) Sperr, 82, died on May 13, 2023. She was born in Rochester, NY on April 10, 1942, to John and Audrey Duncan as the youngest of three siblings (brother Pat and sister Kay). She attended Nazareth Academy (class '60), and during her years there she met her future husband Philip Sperr, whom she married on June 30, 1962.
Peggy and Phil lived in many places while Phil worked for Eastman Kodak – Maryland, New York, Illinois, Hawaii, Texas, California – eventually moving to Portland, Oregon. They enjoyed camping throughout the U.S. and Canada as well as traveling to Europe.
Peggy was a full-time mother to her four children (Steve, Matt, Julie, and Mike) when they were growing up. She loved to cook, accumulating many cookbooks over the years and perfecting recipes for dishes that her children and grandchildren (Annie, Emma, Nick, Sam, Sophie, Max, and Deaglan) still make and enjoy today – like chocolate chip cupcakes and Christmas cookies.
Once the kids were away from home, Peggy started raising and training Labrador Retrievers, and her dogs won many hunt test awards in the Pacific Northwest over the last 20 years. She shared her love for training dogs with her husband Phil, who preceded her in death by three years. She also spent a lot of time doing volunteer work with Oregon CASA Network as a Court Appointed Special Advocate.
Peggy enjoyed meeting new people and being outdoors doing active things. She also became quite proficient in arts and crafts, creating beautiful stained-glass work, quilts, and knitting.
Funeral arrangements are being made through Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Peggy’s name to the Oregon CASA Network.
