Margie peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on February 25, 2024, she was 86 years old.
Margie was born in Renton, Washington on July 26, 1937 to parents Dewey & Minnie (Mann) Brooks. At a young age, her family moved to St. Helens, Or. where she was raised the 2nd to the youngest of 9 children. She attended McBride Elementary school and graduated from St. Helens High School in 1956. In her High School years, she took RCIA classes at St. Frederic’s Church and became a Catholic. On Sept 1, 1956 she met Lloyd Ebert at the wedding of his youngest brother Willard and they were married on July 20, 1957 at St. Frederics.
They purchased land in Deer Island where they raised their eight children. Although Margie didn’t work outside the home, her career as a house wife kept her busier than most career jobs would. Raising their 8 children was no small feat and helping on the farm tending to the animals such as cattle, milk cows and chickens, their family dog and several outdoor cats. Margie loved to be resourceful, they grew a 1/2 acre garden every year that she would tend to along with canning and freezing all sorts of vegetables and also made jams and jellies from fruit and berries grew on the farm.
Because of her love for family & friends, Margie & Lloyd had all sorts of yearly picnics on the farm, inviting family & neighbors who had become close friends. They would enjoy time together, great food and play Croquet, Lawn darts and Horse shoes. Her greatest love was baking, sewing, Drawing and crafting. At Christmas time she loved to make several different Christmas cookies for her family and to give away as gifts. As her 4 daughters got old enough, she taught them to bake and shared with them her love for it. She liked to Collect and had quite the extensive collection of Barbie Dolls and Coca-Cola items. She loved their beautiful gowns and soon started sewing her own doll clothes by hand that her daughters got to enjoy plus she’d make doll outfits for their friends as well. She loved to free hand sketch & drawn and was amazing at it, this gift she passed down to her son Eugene. She was always working on some sort of craft and instilled in all her children the love for creating something with your own hands. Margie was so meticulous with everything she did, whether it be a drawing or a cake or anything made by hand that it would become a piece of art when complete.
Margie & Lloyd loved to dance. They were members of the Moose Lodge and would frequently be seen there dancing and attending the Turkey Trot. They joined the Trojan Twirlers Square Dance Club where they met and became close friends with several neighbors. They loved to kick up their heels at every chance they could, at the church dances & dinners, the old Armory, Kozy Korner, even on the sidewalk at 13 Nights on the River. Margie enjoyed playing Bingo & Bunco with the local Deer Island Ladies group where she made many lifetime friendships. In 1980 they became members of the Deer Island Grange in which they were both very active, but Margie soon found her niche and used her creativity in making the grange booth displays at the County Fair for 35 years, winning 20 1st Places and going on to State Fair.
Margie was a kind woman with one of the biggest hearts. She had a great love for her church, her church family, husband and children and was one of the most giving Mothers we know. She made Valentine cards each year by hand for all of her children’s Teachers and classmates. She enjoyed making all sorts of hand made items for the Church Bazaar each year and for family.
