Martin 'Marty' Albright's Obituary
Martin “Marty” Edward Albright, 66, passed away on November 27, 2025. He was born on September 21, 1959, in Portland, Oregon, to Ralph Martin Albright and Jean Hope Gilbert.
Marty was raised within a strong, blended family, surrounded by his sisters Kim and Pam, as well as his stepbrother John and stepsister Heather. That early foundation shaped him deeply, and he carried a sense of family loyalty throughout his life.
He proudly served nine years in the United States Coast Guard, achieving the rank of Petty Officer First Class (Subsistence Specialist 1st Class). Some of his most treasured memories came from his years aboard the USCGC Resolute (WMEC 620) from 1984 to 1987 while stationed in Astoria. He also often spoke about his time in Yap. His service molded the man he became. He was resilient, disciplined, and quietly strong.
After leaving the Coast Guard, Marty continued pursuing his love for cooking and people through a career in food and hospitality management, as well as retail management. He was known as a dedicated worker who took pride in the quality of anything he made. That commitment could be seen in the jams he crafted and the carvings he left behind.
Marty was a man of few words with a contagious laugh and a presence that could fill a room. He was both authoritative and rebellious, a survivor in every sense, and someone who continued to endure even through battles unseen by others.
He found peace and joy outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, shooting, woodworking, whittling, and cooking. His favorite places included Coffenbury Lake and Trojan Lake, or simply anywhere surrounded by nature. He expressed love by giving pieces of himself to others through a carving, a jar of jam, or a day spent fishing. Many remember his humor and the laughter that followed it.
Above all, Marty was a father and a grandfather. He is survived by his children Brandon, Zachary, Tyler, Sarah, and Amanda, as well as eleven grandchildren, his sisters, step-siblings, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather Dan.
Marty tried. His family hopes people understand that. He tried to love, to show up, to push through his struggles, and to give what he could. One lesson he often shared was this: “Always be there more for your family than your job.”
Services will be held at Fort Stevens Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with honor.
