Mary Karnoski
March 18, 1921 – November 23, 2014
Mary Karnoski, a longtime resident of St. Helens, passed away November 23, 2014. Born in Napoleon, North Dakota she was one of 12 children. She grew up in Sidney, Montana. At the age of 20 she came to St. Helens with the intent to work in the shipyards during the war. Since they were no longer hiring she immediately started work at the St. Helens Pulp and Paper. It was there that she met her future husband, Steve, who was her boss. They married on Feb. 10, 1945 and had four children.
She was an active member of St. Frederic’s Parish and of the Women’s Society. She enjoyed bingo, pinochle, gardening, fishing, traveling, baking and most of all spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband as well as 10 of her siblings.
She is survived by her son, Larry (Linda), daughters Patsy Evert, Nancy Starr (Chip), and Joan Thackery (Russ). She has seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one on the way.
A Celebration of Life at St. Frederic’s Parish will be held on Monday, December 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Rosary will be held at 10:30 AM. There will be a Luncheon after the service followed by an interment at Columbia Memorial Gardens in Scappoose, Oregon.
