Mary Mae Mitchell's Obituary
Mary was born January 12, 1911 in Upham, North Dakota to Charles and Charlotte Russell Whipple. She died on July 13, 2005 at the age of 94.
Mary was only 3 years old when her family moved west from Upham, North Dakota to Anacortes, Washington. She was 19 when she married Fred Elmer Mitchell on December, 31, 1930. They had 30 wonderful years together, before he died in 1960.
Mary's working career began during WWII. When the men went off to war she became a meat cutter, and worked in Allen's Market for 21 years. She was also a cook for the Girls Camp at Lake Murray and the Boy Scouts Camp at Black Mountain. Over the years she volunteered at the Senior Center answering the phone and serving meals, and in between found time to knit. Mary and her family were also very active at the Church of Crist in Anacortes.
In 1994 Mary moved to Scappoose, Oregon to be closer to her children. She immediately joined the Four Square Church in Scappoose, and became 'grandma' to all the young people.
Mary is survived by her son, Fred, and daughter-in-law, Arline, of Scappoose, and daughter, Evelyn and son-in-law, Keith Horner of Roseburg. She has 5 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, July 30 at 2:00 pm at the Four Square Church in Scappoose. Private interment will be at Grandview Cemetery in Anacortes, Washington.
