Mary Mildred Chance-McClain's Obituary
Mary M. Chance-McClain was born on November 2, 1918 in Lenore, Idaho to Andrew & Ida Jane Heaston Detrick.
She died at her home in Scappoose on June 23, 2004 at the age of 85.
She was educated in Newberg, OR., moving to Albany, OR. at age 16 and living ther most of her life.
She was a nanny for Dr. Marshall & Janet Woodworth in Albany, most of her adult life she was a mother and a caregiver.
She was married to Richard Thurber in Portland, he died piloting an Army Air Corp plane when it was shot down. She then married Vernon L. Chance, he died on 12/25/80. She married James McClain and he also preceded her in death in '98.
She was a deacon and member of the Albany United Presbyterian Church since age 24. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Ladies of the Oriental Shrine, American Legion, and the hospital auxillary.
Her special interests included caring for others, a volunteer at the hospital and doing hair care, gardening and her book clubs. She was very outgoing and active.
Survivors include: Daughters: Linda Gaskill of Scappoose, OR.; Shirley Arneson of Beaverton, OR.; Judith Chance of Corvallis, OR.; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral Service: 6/ /04 at 11:00 AM at Albany United Presbyterian Church.
Private family committal service & vault interment: Willamette Memorial Park-Albany, OR.
