Mary M. Newell Dickinson October 22,1947 ~ August 20, 2016
Mary M. Newell Dickinson, 68, of St. Helens, Oregon passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 20, 2016.
Mary was born on October 22, 1947 in Akron, Ohio to parents Walter “Norris” and Leola M Newell. She attended school in Ohio and went on to Kent State to receive a Master of Education. Mary, a life-long learner, then furthered her education at Long Island University earning a Master of Business Administration. She was a gifted teacher and reading specialist. She held Director positions at Apollo College and Trend College. Mary retired from College of Emergency Services as the Dean and Chief Financial Officer.
Mary married Ross Dickinson, the love of her life, February 3, 2007. With the marriage came 2 adult children and 2 granddaughters. Mary loved being a grandmother. She was so proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed watching them swim. In addition to family life, Mary had a deep love for music. She played the clarinet and was a member of several bands, including The Beat Goes On Marching Band, One More Time Around Marching Band, Portland Community Wind Band, and The Power Pep Band.
Mary is survived by her husband, Ross; sister, Jane Krejci of Ohio; niece Cheryl of Ohio, step-children Dana (Sarah) Dickinson of Eugene; Carla (Tom) Reynolds of Bend, Oregon; granddaughters, Callie and Danae Reynolds of Bend, Oregon; several cousins and a great-niece and 2 great nephews; and by her beloved dog, Greta.
She was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Jerry; and many beloved dogs and cats.
Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 2 pm at Bethany Lutheran Church in Warren, Oregon. Services will be immediately followed by live music, courtesy of The Beat Goes On Marching Band, and ice cream.
