Mary Rathbun's Obituary
Our beloved Mary Rathbun passed away quite unexpectely on September 27, 2006, at the age of 74. Mary had been battling cancer. Mary was born in Hillsboro on October 24, 1931. She and her family settled in St. Helens in 1944. She is survived by her children, Robert Rathbun of Canada, Helen Webster of Oak Harbor, WA, and Lucille Masterson of St. Helens; siblings, Lee, Steve, Sid Rennells; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild plus special friends, Jim Dillard and his family. She graduated in 1949 from high school and later received her degree as an LPN from OHSU. She worked at the St. Helens Hospital for many years. The community was Mary's first love. She volunteered for many organizations including HELP, Inc., Senior Citizen Center, Deer Island Grange and Relay for life. Perhaps the ultimate gift she gave our community was caring. Mary was a caregiver for many senior citizens and even the young ones too. She was a role model for many of the young children who crossed her path. Mary was a person that many of us would love to follow - she cared, she loved and she took care of us. It is a tremendous loss to this community. Memorial services are scheduled for Sunday, October 15 12:00 Noon at the PUD Community Room. Friends so wishing may send memorial contributions to the Relay for life. She will be buried with her father at the Green Mountain cemetery in Rainier. Friends who wish to send condolences should write to the Family of Mary Rathbun at P.O. Box 46, St. Helens, OR. 97051
